According to a report by This Day Live on Monday, May 18, 2026, a political group that once strongly backed Mr Peter Obi, known as the Obidient Movement, has warned that the former Labour Party presidential candidate could lose the support of the movement ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Coordinator of the movement, Mr Ikenna Azomchine, made the statement yesterday in Awka, Anambra State.
He said many members of the movement felt neglected after the 2023 presidential election in which Obi contested under the platform of the Labour Party (LP).
Azomchine explained that members of the group invested their time, resources and energy into the campaign during the last election but were disappointed by what they described as a lack of engagement from Obi after the polls.
He stated that the movement expected continued interaction and involvement with supporters after the election period.
He further disclosed that the movement was preparing to mobilise against members of the National Assembly who benefited politically from Obi’s popularity during the 2023 election but had allegedly failed to represent the values and expectations of the people who supported them.
Speaking alongside other leaders of the movement during the media briefing, Azomchine maintained that the Obidient Movement remained committed to the promotion of good governance and accountability in public office.
He stressed that the group was not tied to any political party or individual candidate.
According to him, the movement would rather encourage Nigerians to support candidates from different political parties who have demonstrated credibility and competence.
He said the focus of the group was to support leaders who could be trusted to serve the interests of the people irrespective of party affiliation.
He said, “Talking about whether Peter is doing the things right, that is a question for tomorrow. He risk losing our support because we can not be funding the group for him. He is mistaking social media support for actual votes.”….Read_More…
