According to a report by Fox News from 7:39, on Wednesday April 22, 2026, as regional tensions remain elevated, discussions have intensified regarding the appropriate response to key hardline figures within the Iranian regime, particularly those directing the aggressive activities of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
Retired four-star General Joseph Votel, the former CENTCOM commander, addressed these concerns during a recent Fox News segment.
He emphasized that while a range of options is available to the United States, the focus remains on compelling the regime toward diplomatic compromise.
“Yeah, there’s obviously a lot of options here,” Votel noted. Regarding the potential for targeted action against specific hardline leaders, Votel explained, “He could eventually be targeted if things don’t move forward and they don’t begin to show some movement towards compromise here over the main issues that we’re concerned with here”.
Votel stressed that a primary challenge for U.S. planners is a comprehensive understanding of the regime’s internal power dynamics and identifying the specific influencers behind its current policies.
Referring to a high-ranking individual previously highlighted in the discussion, Votel outlined a two-pronged approach.
“I think part of a big issue for us is really understanding the regime and who is a big influence,” Votel stated. “Certainly the individual you just highlighted is very big behind this, one way is to eliminate him here”.
Alternatively, Votel suggested that continued and increased pressure remains a viable strategy to influence these leaders.
“Another way is to try to put more pressure on him through some of the economic means we have, and through further exposure of the approach that the IRGC is orchestrating on a day-to-day basis”. Read_More…
