According to a report by The Times Of Israel on April 24, 2026, rebuilding trust between Abu Dhabi and Tehran is expected to take a very long time after Iran targeted the United Arab Emirates during the recent Middle East conflict. UAE presidential advisor Anwar Gargash made the remarks while addressing a World Policy Conference in the town of Chantilly near Paris, as diplomatic efforts continue to stabilize the region amid ongoing tensions sparked by Israeli-US strikes on Iran in late February.
Gargash stressed that relations cannot quickly recover after such a level of destruction and hostility. He pointed to the scale of the attacks involving thousands of missiles and drones, saying this has deeply damaged any immediate prospects of reconciliation between the two sides.
“You can’t be attacked with 2,800 missiles and drones and then talk to me about trust. That will take ages and ages,” Gargash says at a World Policy Conference in the town of Chantilly near Paris, as peace talks hang in the balance to end the war sparked in late February by Israeli-US strikes on Iran.
He further explained that trust-building between the two countries would require sustained effort over many years, especially given the seriousness of the recent escalation.
