Dr. Samson Osagie, lawyer and former Minority Whip of the House of Representatives, advised Governor Siminalayi Fubara to resolve the budget crisis by adhering to legal procedures. He urged the governor to swallow his pride and negotiate with the Amaewhule-led Rivers Assembly to allow legislators to resume their duties and pass a valid budget.
He warned that if Fubara fails to comply, the recognized legislators could impeach him for governing without an approved budget. In such a scenario, the law would not favor the governor, making it essential for him to act swiftly to avoid further consequences.
He said in an interview with Channels TV from 16:11, “If the governor doesn’t follow the law, the validly recognized legislators could go ahead and impeach him for running the state without a legally approved and enacted budget. The law will not be in his favor in that instance.”
