A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dele Momodu, has warned that the South may suffer politically if several strong presidential aspirants from the region continue to pursue their ambitions ahead of the next general election.

Speaking during an interview from 0:56 on Channels Television, the businessman and politician expressed concern over what he described as the increasing number of southern politicians interested in the presidency. According to him, such a development could weaken the South’s chances if the North eventually unites behind a single candidate.

Momodu specifically mentioned former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as some of the major southern figures whose continued participation in the presidential race could divide votes from the region.

According to him, the North already appears more politically coordinated, unlike the South where several influential politicians are openly showing interest in contesting for the presidency.

In his statement, Momodu said:

“If the North fields one candidate, nobody can defeat them. I’m sure about that. I haven’t seen that kind of proliferation in the North.”

He further stressed that most of the politicians currently declaring presidential ambition are from the South, warning that the situation may eventually work against the region’s political interest.

In his words:

“Everybody who is shouting today that they want to be president, they are from the South. If Peter Obi, Jonathan, and Seyi Makinde decide to continue in the race, trust me, it is going to backfire for the South.”….Read_More…
