Senator representing Anambra Central, Senator Victor Umeh, has disagreed with Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s assertion that the rising wave of insecurity in Nigeria is linked to political contention ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking in an interview from 9:36 with Channels TV, Sen. Umeh said, “I do not want to join issues with the Senate President, but he should not politicise insecurity. By making that type of statement, he is making it look as though it is politics that is responsible for the mass killings of Nigerians. There was no election last year, do you know how many people were killed? Two years ago, there was no election, how many people were killed in Nigeria? These are daily occurrences that have nothing to do with elections.”
He also revealed that he had actively opposed a proposed Senate security summit, arguing that a similar exercise held in 2018 yielded no meaningful results.
He expressed relief that the summit had not taken place and called instead for a more practical approach, urging the government to look inward and strengthen its existing security apparatus to better defend and protect Nigerian lives. Read_More…
