In a recent interview with Channels Television From 11:30, former Minister of Communications Adebayo Shittu described Nasir El-Rufai as the only former CPC figure with a justifiable grievance against the All Progressives Congress (APC), lamenting how the party failed to accommodate the former Kaduna State governor after playing a major role in President Bola Tinubu’s emergence.

Shittu said that while many politicians from the defunct CPC are “grasping at straws” for relevance, El-Rufai’s contributions were both strategic and visible. He accused the APC leadership of failing to properly reward loyalty and political effort—an error that, he implied, may have cost the party a valuable asset.

The former minister’s remarks come just weeks after El-Rufai officially resigned from the APC and joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP). The defection, which has sparked reactions across the political landscape, was seen by many as a response to perceived marginalization and broken promises by the ruling party.

“In the entire political spectrum of APC, he—El-Rufai—is the only one I’m convinced has a good case,” Shittu stated. “I saw him as a leading figure in the pro-Tinubu agitation for the presidency, and he was promised a particular position. When that did not come, I expected that government would still bring him on board one way or the other. So to just leave him go to blazes, as it were, I don’t think we have done well enough in handling his case. Apart from him, I don’t see anybody who has any justification.”
