Falilat Olaonipekun, the mother of late Nigerian rapper DaGrin, has said some people organized tribute events for her son after his death without involving the family.

In a video from 1:24 shared by PUNCH on Friday, May 8, 2026, she said that after DaGrin died 16 years ago, some people held remembrance activities and social media tributes on their own while ignoring the family.

She stated that many people only pretended to sympathize with them because of what they hoped to gain from DaGrin’s fame. She said the family was left out of activities meant to honour the late rapper.

According to her,

“A lot of people with sympathize with you but it’s all because of what they can gain from you. 16 years ago after my son’s death some people organize the remembrance and tribute gathering on social media but they did not involve us, his family. They did it on their own. Most people are not real sympathizers.”….Read_More…
