Kalu Agu, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Abia State chairman of the party, has warned that Governor Alex Otti could face a backlash from Peter Obi’s supporters ahead of the 2027 general election over his support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Speaking in an interview from 1:08 with SYMFONI on October 29, 2026, Agu argued that Otti’s emergence as governor of Abia State was made possible by the support of the Obidient Movement, which he accused the governor of failing to acknowledge.

Agu alleged that Otti had distanced himself from the movement despite benefiting from its political support during his governorship campaign. He criticised the governor for backing Tinubu rather than Obi, suggesting that the decision could affect his relationship with Obi’s supporters.

The ADC chieftain maintained that the Obidient Movement would be unhappy with Otti’s political alignment and predicted that the issue would become significant as the 2027 elections approach.

Explaining why he believed the governor could face opposition from his former supporters, Agu said, “The first people that will deal with Alex Otti are the Obidients and we because he is an ingrate. He became governor of Abia State with the help of the Obidient structure. But today, he’s telling them he became governor not with their assistance. So by 2027, they’re going to deal with him for leaving Peter Obi to be supporting Tinubu.”
