Political commentator Majid has taken a swipe at former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi over his recent claim that there is a political “joker” capable of defeating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next election.
Speaking during an interview on TVC News from 2:14, Majid questioned the credibility of such a statement coming from Amaechi who lost decisively to Tinubu during the All Progressives Congress presidential primaries in 2022. He reminded viewers that the contest was not close, with Amaechi polling just 316 electoral votes against Tinubu’s 1,271.
“Imagine Amaechi who lost to Tinubu at the 2023 primaries,” Majid remarked. “He scored 316 electoral votes, Tinubu scored 1,271, and he said, ‘We have the joker to defeat him.’”
Majid argued that political realities on the ground make such declarations appear more like wishful thinking than a solid strategy. He noted that since Tinubu’s assumption of office, his influence within the APC and control over party structures have only grown, making any internal challenge far more difficult than during the primaries.
According to Majid, the idea of a “joker” implies a hidden political weapon or alliance, but such maneuvers would require massive grassroots mobilization, financial resources and broad-based support factors he believes are not currently evident around Amaechi.
While Amaechi has not publicly disclosed what the so-called “joker” entails, his supporters have hinted at potential coalition-building efforts ahead of the 2027 general elections, however, political analysts remain divided on whether such a strategy could realistically unseat Tinubu, given the president’s entrenched position in both the APC and the national political landscape.
Majid’s remarks have since stirred debate online, with some viewing them as a blunt reality check, while others see them as underestimating Amaechi’s political acumen.
