Public Affairs Analyst Dayo Akintobi has compared the reported arrest of the father of Prince Adeyemi Adeniyi, who is facing criminal charges over alleged forgery and impersonation as Director-General of the PFIPC, to a similar incident that occurred during the military era under the late General Sani Abacha.
Speaking during an interview from 7:18 on Vanguard News TV, on Tuesday, 7 July, 2026, Akintobi reacted to reports that Adeyemi’s father was arrested while security agencies continue efforts to secure the appearance of his son, who is alleged to be in hiding.
According to Akintobi, the strategy was employed during the Abacha administration when Wale Babalakin was wanted for questioning but could not be located by security operatives.
“During Abacha days, they wanted to interrogate him. He went to hide somewhere and his lawyer was the one talking to them and they said no, we want to talk to you. So they went to his house and picked up his father who was a retired Justice of Supreme Court and locked up his father and said if you don’t show up, we will keep your father here and I know your father is aged, he is ailing and he won’t survive in prison, Akintobi said….See More
