The Interim National Chairman of the Labour Party, Senator Nenadi Usman, has issued a pointed warning to her embattled rival, Julius Abure, that any delay in reconciling with the party’s leadership could permanently shut the door on his chances of participating in the Labour Party’s forthcoming primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking in an interview from 23:02 aired by Arise News, Senator Usman responded to speculation that Abure and other aggrieved members might seek to return to the fold on their own terms, stressing that the party’s internal processes were already in motion and would not be paused indefinitely to accommodate dissenting factions.
The chairman, whose leadership has been upheld by both the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeal, made clear that INEC’s statutory requirements imposed a hard deadline on membership participation, leaving little room for prolonged hesitation.
“It will be too late for him to come back because once we close the register 21 days before primaries and submit to INEC, you can’t come from outside,” she said.
Senator Usman disclosed that ward congresses had already commenced nationwide, with the national convention scheduled for Tuesday in Abuja, where substantive party leadership is expected to emerge.
