Former Kogi West Senator and lawyer, Dino Melaye, has called for a broad coalition of opposition political leaders and stakeholders to unite ahead of the 2027 general election, arguing that Nigeria requires urgent political change.

Melaye made the appeal in a video from 3:30 posted on his official Instagram page on Monday, June 1, 2026, where he criticised the administration of President Bola Tinubu and expressed concerns about the country’s economic and social conditions.

The former lawmaker urged prominent opposition figures across political divides to work together in what he described as an effort to rescue the country from its current challenges.

“So I’m using this opportunity to call on all oppositions from Peter Obi to Kwankwaso to Donald Duke, to Goodluck Jonathan, to Atiku Abubakar and every other person who’s interested in the governance of this country to come together at this time and work together to rescue this country,” Melaye said.

According to him, Nigeria is at a critical point that requires collective action from political leaders and citizens alike. Melaye accused President Tinubu of pursuing what he described as a “totalitarian approach” to governance and alleged that the President was more focused on retaining power than on democratic competition.

“Because the approach of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is a totalitarian approach. The man is not interested in election. I’ve said that several times. He wants to be coronated as president of the French Republic of Nigeria and this is the time for Nigerians to obey the clarion call of our heroes past,” he stated.

The former senator also called on Nigerians to become actively involved in efforts to address the nation’s challenges. “We must rescue our country. We must ameliorate the problems. We must part with the difficulties,” he said.

Melaye further criticised the administration’s borrowing record, comparing it with that of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

“As we speak Tinubu has borrowed over 30 billion US dollars and you will know that Buhari in eight years with subsidy borrowed 87 trillion. Tinubu without subsidy in three years have borrowed over 200 trillion in three years. I mean that is a precociously calamitous. It calls for instantaneous amelioration,” he said.

He went on to highlight what he described as worsening living conditions across the country, citing economic hardship, healthcare challenges, poor infrastructure, and other social concerns.

“I’m using this opportunity to call on Nigerians that it is now or never. Hunger in the land is pervasive. Disease is ravaging. Our hospitals are now near consulting clinics. Our roads are death traps. There is no water, no housing, no transport, no facet of our national life is working,” Melaye stated.

The former lawmaker concluded by urging citizens to become agents of change and support efforts aimed at replacing the current administration. “The time to rescue the country is now and the call for you to become a change agent is now. Tinubu must go and APC must go. This is not a government,” he said….Read_More…
