A member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Segun Showunmi, has explained why he may refuse to attend the convention being planned by the faction linked to Nyesom Wike.
In a video from 15:10 shared by Arise TV, Showunmi, who is also interested in becoming the next governor of Ogun State, said his decision depends on whether Seyi Makinde will be present at the event. Makinde belongs to a different group within the PDP and has already made it clear that he does not plan to attend the convention.
According to Showunmi, Makinde plays an important role in the party, especially in the South-West region. He believes Makinde is the strongest example of good leadership in the zone and helps make the party more attractive to voters.
Showunmi explained that as someone who wants to run for governor, he needs a strong and successful figure within the party to point to as proof that the PDP can deliver good governance. In his view, Makinde is currently that figure.
He also suggested that attending a major party event without such a key figure would make it harder to convince people to support the party.
In his words, “I have told myself over the night that if Seyi Makinde doesn’t set foot in there, I will not go. The simple reason is that I’m very clear, sometimes I have very harsh words for him. But I’m very clear as to how you market a political party.” Read_More…
