According to a report by Vanguard on Monday 6th July 2026; Human rights activist and social commentator, Segun Awosanya, popularly known as Segalink, has argued that the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, does not possess the qualities required to become Nigeria’s president.
Speaking during an interview on Vanguard’s Politics Hub, Segalink discussed the country’s political climate ahead of the 2027 general elections and explained why he believes Obi is not the right person to lead the nation.
According to him, Obi’s political influence has been built around the frustrations and anger of many Nigerians rather than on a strong record of national leadership; He claimed that the former Anambra State governor has relied heavily on public sentiment and social media support instead of promoting inclusive politics.
Segalink alleged that Obi’s supporters often engage in online attacks against individuals with opposing views, describing the movement as one driven by intimidation and public pressure rather than healthy democratic engagement.
Responding to suggestions that his criticism was the result of personal disagreements with members of the Obidient movement, Segalink denied having any conflict with them; He stated that he remains committed to his own work and does not see himself as being in any battle with Obi’s supporters.
The activist also revisited the #EndSARS protests, alleging that some members of the Obidient movement attempted to turn the protest into a political platform; He claimed that when those efforts did not succeed, several people involved in the movement became targets of online criticism and attacks.
Segalink further explained why he had previously spoken positively about Peter Obi; According to him, his earlier comments were simply in recognition of Obi’s public positions on issues affecting vulnerable Nigerians at the time and should not be interpreted as political support.
Despite that earlier praise, he insisted that Obi’s leadership record raises serious concerns; Segalink accused the former Anambra governor of promoting divisive politics while in office and argued that some of Obi’s past actions conflict with the principles he now advocates.
He concluded by urging Nigerians to be cautious about accepting popular narratives on social media, stressing that information should be verified because widespread circulation does not automatically make a claim true….Read_More…
