According to Al Jazeera, Iran’s mission to the United Nations has reiterated its pledge to retaliate against Israel over the assassination of Hamas’s political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.

The statement, reported by the Mehr news agency, outlines Iran’s objectives for its response, which include punishing Israel for the act of terror and violation of Iran’s national sovereignty, as well as strengthening Iran’s deterrence power and making the Israeli regime deeply regret its actions to prevent future aggression.

The statement emphasizes that Iran’s response will be timed and executed in a manner that catches the Israelis by surprise. “Maybe when their eyes are on the sky and the radar screen, they are surprised from the ground, and maybe a combination of the two,” the statement said, hinting at the possibility of a ground attack.

The statement also stresses that Iran’s response will be carefully calibrated to avoid any negative impact on a potential ceasefire in Gaza. This suggests that Iran is aware of the delicate balance in the region and is seeking to strike a balance between its desire for retaliation and the need for stability.

The assassination of Haniyeh, a senior Hamas leader, in Tehran has already heightened tensions between Israel and Iran. Iran’s statement is a clear warning to Israel that it will not tolerate such actions and is willing to take drastic measures to defend its interests and sovereignty. The international community will be closely monitoring the situation to see how Iran responds and whether it can do so without further escalating the conflict in the region….VìêwMorê
