The Niger Delta activist and traditional ruler, Asari Dokubo, has made fresh remarks concerning Nigeria’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections, particularly addressing his role in political advocacy and electoral campaigns.

Dokubo made the comments during a video from 11:32 shared on Facebook on Saturday, May 30, 2026, where he spoke about democratic participation, freedom of expression, and the right of citizens to support or oppose political candidates.

In his statement, he referenced former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, while discussing political competition ahead of the next presidential election.

He said, “It is within my right to campaign and fight against the emergence of Peter Obi,” stressing that political engagement allows individuals to openly support their preferred candidates and oppose others within the bounds of the law.

According to him, democracy provides citizens with the freedom to express their political preferences and to participate actively in campaigns aimed at influencing electoral outcomes.

He also emphasized that the 2027 elections are likely to generate intense political debates, with different groups and stakeholders promoting their preferred visions for the country’s future.

The activist maintained that his message should be taken seriously, urging Nigerians to remain politically engaged and to exercise their democratic rights responsibly as preparations for the next general elections continue.
