Nigerian socio-political activist and human rights advocate, Aisha Yesufu, has publicly challenged media organisations over reports claiming that she voluntarily withdrew or stepped down from her senatorial ambition.
In a statement shared through her official X account on Saturday, May 30, 2026, Yesufu clarified that she did not abandon the race as widely reported by several media platforms. According to her, she contested for the senatorial ticket until the very end but lost after what she described as a flawed primary election process.
The activist explained that despite her dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primary, she chose to accept the outcome in the interest of party unity and the broader political struggle ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Yesufu stated that she was unwilling to create division within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at a critical moment when the party is preparing for what she described as a more important national battle.
According to her, the presidential election scheduled for 2027 remains the primary focus, and she intends to dedicate her energy toward supporting what she believes is the best candidate for the country.
She also accused some media organisations of distorting the facts surrounding her political journey and warned against what she called attempts to rewrite history. The activist urged news platforms to correct their headlines and accurately reflect the circumstances surrounding the senatorial contest.
Yesufu stressed that her decision to move forward peacefully should not be interpreted as weakness or voluntary withdrawal from the race.
Known for her outspoken views on governance, democracy and accountability, Aisha Yesufu remains one of Nigeria’s most influential civic voices. She gained national and international recognition for her role in major citizen-led movements and has consistently advocated for transparency, justice and electoral reforms in the country.
Her latest comments have sparked discussions online, with supporters praising her stance while others debated the internal processes within the party…..Read_More…
