Crisis erupted during the governorship primary election of the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Saturday after one of the aspirants, Dr Allen Ezekiel-Hart, rejected the conduct and outcome of the exercise, claiming that the party ended up producing three different governorship candidates from a single primary.
According to Sunday Sun, speaking with journalists in Abuja, Ezekiel-Hart condemned the process, describing it as deeply flawed and accusing former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, of manipulating the exercise in favour of a preferred aspirant.
“Right now, we have three governorship candidates in one party, all thanks to Amaechi’s high-handedness,” he said.
The aggrieved aspirant explained that the party had initially scheduled the governorship primary for May 23, but aspirants were allegedly notified late on Friday that the election date had suddenly been changed.
According to Ezekiel-Hart, he was already coordinating supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state in preparation for the officially scheduled exercise when another aspirant, Farah Dagogo, informed him that a separate primary had already taken place without his awareness.
