Nollywood actress Basira Beere has opened up about her failed marriage, revealing that she decided to leave her husband after years of alleged domestic violence and emotional abuse.
Speaking during an interview from 34.57 on the Talk-to-B podcast, the actress said her former husband frequently beat her and made her suffer several pregnancy losses. She explained that one particular incident changed her decision completely after she noticed heavy bleeding shortly after he allegedly assaulted her.
According to Beere, she stopped reporting the abuse to her parents because they kept advising her to remain patient in the marriage. She also claimed that her husband often refused to support her financially and questioned her whenever she bought clothes or personal items.
The actress said the constant mistreatment made her fear for her safety and mental well-being. She added that she eventually realized staying longer in the marriage could have led to something worse happening to both of them.
Beere stated that she reached a point where she was prepared to defend herself physically if another violent incident occurred, adding that many domestic violence cases become deadly when both partners react violently.
She also recalled their final major fight, saying she was badly injured and covered in blood before eventually walking away from the marriage for good.
The actress thanked God that they did not have children together before the relationship ended.
