A witness, Ferdinand Igwe, has recounted the shocking moment he discovered that a 10-year-old adopted girl allegedly beaten to death by her guardian was lying lifeless inside a compound in the Igando area of Lagos State.
Speaking in an interview from 2:41 with Punch Newspapers, Igwe narrated how suspicion grew after a group of women arrived at the residence of the suspect, who was accused of repeatedly abusing the child before her death.
According to the witness, the unusual gathering and the frightened reactions of the visitors prompted him to intervene. He explained that he immediately became concerned when some of the women attempted to leave the compound in panic without explaining what had happened.
“Then I locked the backyard door. I said nobody will go out of this door if nobody told me what’s going on. The woman that came with them said haven’t you heard?, there is a dead corpse inside your compound and you people are living here and nobody knows. I said, I don’t understand,” Igwe stated during the interview with Punch Newspapers.
