In a recent interview with Arise News from 8:15, Chief Bode George, a respected elder statesman, shared his thoughts on the planned nationwide protests in Nigeria. He emphasized the importance of allowing citizens to exercise their fundamental rights to express dissatisfaction with the government.
Chief George drew a comparison with Kenya, suggesting that Nigeria, being a more civilized nation, should handle protests with greater care. He cautioned the government and its agencies against suppressing the voices of citizens, advocating for a more measured approach.
The elder statesman’s message is clear: the government should listen to feedback from its citizens and address their grievances. He urged restraint in handling protests, advising against the use of force or violence. Instead, he recommended isolating and apprehending individuals who engage in violent behavior, while allowing peaceful protesters to exercise their rights.
“I’m not saying we should do what they did in Kenya, Nigeria is more civilized than that but don’t prevent them from exercising their fundamental rights to tell you like a feedback that we are not happy. For me, the Govt should be careful and all other agencies should follow them, but don’t shoot at them and anyone making any violence, they can isolate them, grab them and take them away” He said….Seë_Morë
