Former Niger Delta militant leader and traditional ruler from Rivers State, Asari Dokubo, has weighed in on the growing political debate ahead of the 2027 general elections, comparing the leadership records of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Anambra State governor Peter Obi, and former Kano State governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Dokubo made the remarks during a live broadcast on his official Facebook page from 8;08 on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, where he argued that the performance of political leaders while serving as governors should form part of public assessment ahead of future elections.
During the broadcast, Dokubo compared the developmental records of Lagos State and Anambra State, insisting that the differences between both states are visible to Nigerians. “Let us come to Lagos. You keep Lagos side by side with Anambra. Even the blind will see. Anambra and Lagos,” he said.
He credited Tinubu’s tenure as former governor of Lagos State with laying a foundation for development and governance that, according to him, can still be evaluated today. “President Ahmed Bola Tinubu was governor of Lagos State. Put Anambra and Lagos side by side and let us judge,” Dokubo stated.
The former militant leader also included Kano State in the comparison, referring to the political record of Kwankwaso as governor of the state. “Bring Kano and put it together with Lagos and judge,” he added.
Dokubo argued that Nigerians often ignore visible records of governance when making political decisions, despite what he described as clear evidence available across different states. “Nigerians, we have a problem. We don’t want to see the truth,” he said.
He further questioned the basis on which Obi is being projected by supporters as a potential national leader, maintaining that the former Anambra governor’s record should remain open to public scrutiny. “How can anybody ever think of Obi as somebody who can become anything?” Dokubo asked.
The Rivers-based traditional ruler also questioned whether Obi’s leadership approach had changed significantly since leaving office in Anambra State. “When did Obi change from what he did in Anambra to become somebody who will save the country? How?” he stated.
Dokubo insisted that the performance records of major political figures remain accessible for Nigerians to evaluate independently. “The testimonial is there in Anambra for all of us to see. The testimonial of Kwankwaso is there for everybody to see in Kano. And the testimonial of Bola Ahmed Tinubu is there to see in Lagos,” he added….Read_More…
