In a recent interview from 20:25 on Symfoni TV, High Chief Peter Ameh, former Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), spoke on internal party democracy, presidential primaries, and criticisms surrounding Peter Obi’s political decisions ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During the interview, Ameh stated, “Dele Momodu said, ‘Obi is afraid of primaries, but he contested the presidential election in the NCP.’” He made the remark while responding to claims by some political commentators that Peter Obi avoids competitive party primaries.

Ameh argued that such criticisms ignore Obi’s previous political experiences and electoral history, stressing that the former Anambra State governor has participated in highly contested political processes in the past.

He explained that Obi’s political career demonstrates a willingness to compete within democratic structures, contrary to allegations that he is uncomfortable with internal party contests or leadership challenges.

According to Ameh, much of the criticism directed at Obi is politically motivated and designed to weaken public confidence in his credibility ahead of future elections.

He further noted that debates over primaries and coalition politics have become increasingly prominent within opposition circles, especially as parties attempt to position themselves strategically for 2027.

Ameh maintained that political parties must focus on building transparent and fair internal processes capable of accommodating different interests without creating unnecessary divisions among supporters.
