Senator Abdul Ningi representing Bauchi State has alleged that the newly amended electoral laws and Senate standing rules were deliberately crafted to serve the interests of specific individuals and a particular political party, rather than the broader institution.

Speaking on AIT News from 3:44, Ningi said, “The new rules are self-serving and self-centred, from those who propose it and those who support it. In 2023, when we came here, this particular ranking criterion was thrown under the bus. That is why you could see someone who was coming to the Senate for the first time and within the first week, becoming a principal officer. A lot of the laws that were recently passed were tailored to a particular party and individual advantage. That is the truth,” he said.

Ningi extended his criticism to the management of Senate committees over the past three and a half years, alleging that some of the most important committees were handed to inexperienced senators who proved unequal to the task.
