Dr. Akin Fapohunda, Director of Research for Afenifere, has spoken on the debate surrounding power rotation and the 2027 presidential election.

In a video from 18:28 posted on Symfoni, Fapohunda referenced historical political alliances involving Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo while discussing contemporary political developments tied to Peter Obi.

He argued that discussions around ending what he described as a Yoruba expectation of a second presidential term under the current political arrangement could create political tension and division.

Fapohunda maintained that the country’s political future should be guided by fairness, stability, and national cohesion rather than regional rivalry or entitlement.

According to him, “We have to go back to that history. So if Zik refused Awolowo’s offer those days and we are now in 2027, it takes an Obi to knock out without premise the entitlement of Yorubas to a second term of presidency. It’s a dangerous thing. I don’t believe in it. Yhat’s why many of us will canvass Mr. President (Tinubu); one term is enough. Leave honorably; leave with your prestige intact. Restore Nigeria.”…Read_More…
