A tense moment unfolded during Thursday’s Senate plenary after Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that he had just been shown a video of a truck transporting bullets while they spilled across the Zaria–Sokoto Highway. The clip was reportedly presented to him by Senator Garuba as proceedings were underway, according to footage shared by NASS TV on November 27, 2025.
Akpabio interrupted the session, saying: “Sorry, just information as we are discussing here now. Senator Garuba just showed me another video right now happening in Zaria. Today is 26th. That is along Zaria-Sokoto Highway. The bullets were dropping on the road. The driver did not know. And was still going and the bullets were dropping. I hope he has been apprehended.” He immediately issued a call to security authorities: “So I used this opportunity to call on the Commission of Police in Kaduna state to quickly send a team to go and escort the trailer loaded with bullets. Bullets are dropping on the road. People are crying.”
The Senate President urged lawmakers to halt further debate on unrelated matters, citing the urgency of the security situation. He said; “I think we should stop further discussion on this matter. I am going to the prayers. There is a lot of work to be done.” He then addressed concerns over shutting down contributions. He added; “There is no need to – whatever you are going to say, Senator Plunk, these bullets that are dropping on the ground, we need to make a resolution on this now, before the bullets find their way into the hands of the bandits.”
Akpabio opened the floor briefly: “Are you going to say the bullets should not be – okay, say something now because I don’t want anybody to feel that it was shut out. Let’s just use 30 seconds and say what we want to say because these issues are too serious and security really should not be discussed in the open like this.
