CSP Raphael Irowainu (Rtd), National Coordinator of the Retired Police Officers Forum, has faulted the Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom) for insisting that the police must remain under the contributory pension scheme despite repeated appeals and protests from retired officers.
Speaking on Arise News from 3:07, Irowainu said the DG’s position has been one of the major reasons for the continued frustration of police retirees across the country. He explained that PenCom’s justification for keeping the police within the scheme was unfounded and misleading, as the argument about the scheme’s possible collapse if the police were to leave is not supported by facts.
He noted that the contributory pension scheme currently has millions of registered contributors from both the public and private sectors, making the police population too small to cause any instability in the system if they exit.
“What they were saying the other time is that because of our population, if we exit the scheme, it will collapse. That is a fallacy,” Irowainu said.
“The scheme has over nine million subscribers. The total population of the Nigerian Police Force is less than 400,000. I don’t know where they are coming from with that kind of theory.” See, More, Here>>>
