According to a report by Punch on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, the founding National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Ralph Nwosu, has declared that the party intends to play a major role in the 2027 general elections and insisted that no election can be successfully conducted without the ADC being included on the ballot.

Nwosu made the statement on Wednesday in Abuja during the ADC Youths Champion and Prospective Legislative Summit organised by the office of the party’s National Youth Leader.

The event took place at the party’s national secretariat and brought together youth leaders, party members, and supporters from different parts of the country.

During his address, Nwosu spoke about the growing influence of the opposition party and the preparations being made ahead of the next general election.

Nwosu stated that the ADC and its coalition partners had already gathered the support and political structure needed to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

According to him, the coalition arrangement within the ADC had strengthened the party and increased its national acceptance.

He explained that discussions and consultations had continued with politicians from different political parties, including some serving senators from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and other opposition groups.

Nwosu disclosed that several lawmakers were still in talks with the ADC leadership regarding plans to join the party before the next election cycle fully begins.

The ADC founding chairman also defended the coalition process within the party, saying all actions taken by the leadership followed legal and constitutional procedures.

According to him, there was nothing unlawful about the party’s internal restructuring and coalition discussions.

He argued that many of the current political disputes affecting opposition parties in Nigeria were linked to what he described as a culture of impunity in the country’s political environment.

Nwosu maintained that the ADC leadership remained committed to democratic principles and lawful political engagement despite the challenges facing opposition politics in Nigeria.

Speaking further at the summit, Nwosu claimed that the ADC currently has about five million registered members across the country.

He said the party intended to use its growing membership strength and coalition support to democratically remove the current administration in the 2027 elections.

According to him, the ADC had continued to attract new members because many Nigerians were dissatisfied with economic hardship, insecurity, and political developments in the country.

He also stated that despite what he described as obstacles allegedly being placed before the party by those in power, the ADC remained focused on expanding its political reach ahead of the next polls.

Nwosu also referred to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, during his remarks on the conduct of future elections.

He insisted that the electoral process in Nigeria must remain open and fair to all registered political parties.

According to him, excluding any recognised opposition party from the ballot would undermine democratic principles and create tension within the political system.

The ADC leader stated that political competition should be based on equal participation and transparent electoral processes rather than restrictions or manipulation.

The ADC has recently increased its political activities and engagements with opposition figures as discussions about coalition politics continue across Nigeria.

In recent months, there have been reports of talks among different opposition politicians seeking ways to strengthen cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections.

Several parties and political actors have expressed concerns about economic conditions, governance issues, and the future of opposition politics under the current administration.

These developments have led to renewed political meetings, consultations, and negotiations among opposition leaders in Abuja and other parts of the country.

He said, “Despite the challenges the government in place is deliberately throwing at us, yesterday, some senators decided they are joining the ADC. All I know is that Tinubu and Amupitan (INEC Chairman) cannot conduct any election in this country if ADC is not on the ballot.”…Read_More…
