Former presidential aspirant Omoyele Sowore has criticised key opposition figures following a recent political meeting in Ibadan, questioning their role in Nigeria’s past and present political landscape. Speaking during an interview aired by TV Platinum from 4:09 on Monday, April 27, 2026.

Sowore responded to questions regarding the gathering of opposition leaders. “My take is public. Nigeria must have a clean break from the past. The people you call opposition leaders are the people who destroyed Nigeria. They are the people who put Nigeria where it is today. I know their names. Atiku, David Mark,” he said.

He highlighted the political longevity of David Mark, drawing comparisons across decades. “Let me tell you why David Mark is very interesting. In 1984, my father bought an almanac and put it on the wall in my village of all the military administrators. David Mark was the military administrator of Niger State in 1984. In 2026, David Mark is the chairman of a political party. I am also a chairman of a political party in 2026,” he stated.

Sowore questioned the continued prominence of older political figures in leadership roles. “In 1984, I was in class three, secondary school. In 2026, I’m 55 years old. You still expect such a person to hold on to your future in Ibadan. In 2026, what happened to all the young people in the country?” he asked.

He further criticised what he described as resistance to generational change. “Nigerian elders are the most selfish in the world. They cannot offer you anything but they will never allow you to progress. If they were not selfish and wicked, what stops them from stepping back and even becoming the moderators and the MC at an opposition meeting of people who are in their 40s and 50s, the majority of the country,” he said.

Referring to the meeting’s organisation, he added, “I was invited by them. They wrote me a letter. When I saw the name of Jerry Gana there, I said, what is wrong with Jerry Gana to be chairman of an event? He’s the convener. The person who was supposed to be chairman, who didn’t show up, was Obasanjo at the age of 90.”

Sowore also criticised past roles held by some political figures. “David Mark was the guy who said telephone is not made for the poor when he was communication minister. He was a senate president for eight years in this country. He was the one when he was military officer who said, Abiola cannot be sworn in after he won an election. Atiku was vice president for eight years in this country. ASUU went on strike. They refused to pay ASUU. They went and set up their own universities, him and Obasanjo,” he stated.

He continued with broader criticism of participants at the meeting. “Who else was at the meeting? There’s nobody in that meeting that should not be in prison. Yes, most of the elders. They destroyed this country,” he said.

Sowore also addressed the role of younger Nigerians in the political space. “But you know, the biggest problem is not even them. It’s the young people whose only aspiration is to become special assistants. That is their biggest ambition. And there’s another more dangerous ambition now is to become an influencer to the people who destroyed Nigeria. So they want to be shunning out lies,” he stated.

He concluded by affirming his right to comment on national issues regardless of invitations. “Oh, you did not go to the meeting. They didn’t invite you. Even if they don’t invite me, I still have an opinion about the meeting. Because it’s my future. It’s my country that’s at stake,” he added…Read_More…
