National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ini Ememobong has criticized the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) over what he described as its silence following an alleged threat against Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
Ememobong made the remarks during an interview from 4:07 on Channels Television while reacting to the controversy surrounding the governor’s comments and the perceived lack of response from the APC leadership. His comments come amid rising political tensions and concerns about the safety of opposition figures ahead of future electoral activities.
Highlighting the PDP’s position, Ememobong condemned what he characterized as a failure of political responsibility on the part of the ruling party. He said, “For a party whose governor threatened an entire opposition, and threatened that they cannot guarantee safety of Peter Obi in Edo State and that party could not at least caution that Governor.” The PDP spokesperson argued that such statements, if left unchecked, could deepen political divisions and undermine democratic principles.
He further noted that political leaders and parties have a duty to promote tolerance and ensure that opposition figures can freely participate in democratic processes without fear of intimidation or harm.
