Chidi Odinkalu, a renowned human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission has taken to his official X handle to react after the Senate sought the suspension of campaigns across eight northern states due to insecurity. According to his statements, he pointed out that the move by the Senate was commendable.

The national assembly in a recent move to protect lives and properties, sought the suspension of political campaigns across eight states in the northern region.

The states captured by the national assembly included Borno State, Plateau State, Bauchi State, Benue State, Niger State, Sokoto State, Kebbi State, and parts of Kano State.

This was contained in a recent post which Chidi Odinkalu, a respected human rights activist and former chairman of the national human rights commission shared on his official X account on Sunday April 26th, 2026.

According to his statements, he pointed out that while the move by the Senate was commendable, the attention given to it was surprising.

He further maintained that the implications of boycotting political activities in the affected states were far-reaching, however, many were not aware of the disaster.

The statements from Chidi Odinkalu, which had sparked massive public debate, indicated that if political activities were suspended in the said states, the opposition might not have the platform to sell their manifesto to the people.
