Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, has stated that at least 30 percent of the people in Niger Republic have blood ties to people in Nigeria, showing how closely connected the two countries are.
In an interview from 21:13 with News Central TV, Obasanjo said that without the support and cooperation of Niger Republic, it would have been very difficult for Nigeria to win the Nigerian Civil War between 1967 to 1970.
Obasanjo explained that supplies needed by Nigerian troops were moved through Niger Republic and then transported to soldiers at the war front. He said this support helped strengthen Nigeria’s position during the conflict.
