Following the just concluded high-stakes meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin, and the President of the United States of America, Donald Trump in Alaska to bring an end to the prolonged Ukrainian war that resulted in the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians, President Vladimir Putin announced that he and American President Donald Trump reached a crucial understanding that could finally end the war in Ukraine.

According to a report by Anadolu English on Saturday 16 August, 2025, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin called his just concluded meeting with the American President, Trump constructive and useful, expressing rare optimism about resolving the nearly two-year conflict, but warned that Western interference, especially the country members of the European Union could still derail progress.

He also called the prolonged Ukrainian war a tragedy and great pain, insisting Ukraine’s Western tilt threatened Russia’s existence, declaring that a lasting peace required addressing root causes.

In his words, President Putin said “I would like to hope that the understanding that we’ve reached together will help us bring closer that goal and will pave the path towards peace in Ukraine. Russia has always considered, and still considers, the Ukrainian people to be fraternal. We have always considered the Ukrainian people, and I have said this repeatedly, to be fraternal, no matter how strange it may sound in today’s conditions. We have the same roots, and everything that happens to us is a tragedy and a great pain.”

“I would like to thank Mr. Trump for our productive collaboration and for the open, trust-based nature of our discussions. Most importantly, both sides remained results-oriented. We recognize that the US president has a clear vision of his goals, truly prioritizes his nation’s welfare, while also demonstrating respect for Russia’s legitimate interests,” the Russian leader praised President Trump.

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin went further to commend President Donald Trump for his open, trust-based discussions and crediting the President for understanding Russia’s security needs, claiming that the Ukraine war would never have started if Trump had stayed in office.

He also warned the Ukrainian Government, and the country members of the European Union that they should avoid provocations or behind-the-scenes intrigues that could undermine the Alaska agreements, revealing that he had warned the administration of the former President of the US, Joe Biden, that escalating tensions would be a grave mistake.
