NDC spokesperson Theo Abu Agada has reacted to an online presidential opinion poll that placed former Vice President Atiku Abubakar ahead of former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi in the race ahead of the 2027 general election.
Abu Agada shared his reaction on his official X account on Friday, August 28, 2026, after the poll generated discussions among supporters of both politicians.
According to the figures circulating online, Atiku secured 43 percent of the votes, placing him three percentage points ahead of Obi, who recorded 40 percent. The result has sparked different reactions, particularly among supporters of the two opposition figures.
Commenting on the poll, Abu Agada questioned its credibility and alleged that supporters of Atiku were manipulating the exercise to create a favourable impression about their candidate.
He also pointed to what he described as an apparent change in attitude among those who have previously dismissed opinion polls as unreliable. According to him, some supporters who normally criticise such polls are now embracing the results because their preferred candidate is ahead.
Abu Agada maintained that the figures do not reflect what he believes would happen if Nigerians were asked directly about their preferred candidate.
“I can assure you that if you ask ten Nigerians on the street who they will vote for, six out of ten will mention Peter Obi. Atiku supporters are rigging this to make themselves feel good”.
His comments have further highlighted the growing rivalry among opposition figures as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
