In a recent video shared on Facebook, Asari Dokubo reflected on his past political alliance with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, shedding light on a once-friendly relationship that eventually broke down.

Dokubo explained that their close ties dated back to 1992 when he first met Tinubu through the late MKO Abiola. During those years, he played a key role in the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), leading the party’s structure in Rivers State.

He acknowledged that their political bond fractured after he shifted his loyalty to former President Goodluck Jonathan, which led to growing tensions between them. Dokubo pointed out that this fallout marked a turning point, not only in their personal relationship but also in his political standing within Rivers State.

Reflecting on the current situation, Dokubo expressed disappointment over how Rivers politics has transformed. He highlighted that the state’s political landscape is now dominated by Nyesom Wike, suggesting that Wike’s influence has sidelined earlier political movements like the ACN, which Dokubo once championed.

By recounting his journey from political ally to rival, Dokubo emphasized the unpredictable and shifting nature of political alliances in Nigeria, where loyalty can swiftly change depending on evolving interests and ideological positions.

In his own words, he remarked, “I came to know Ahmed Bola Tinubu in 1992 through the late MKO Abiola. I’ve known him since; we had a robust relationship. We had problems because of my support for Goodluck Jonathan. Otherwise, I was a leader of the ACN in Rivers State. I was one of the leaders of the ACN in Rivers State.
