Joshua Daniel, one of the 16 victims rescued by security operatives after they were abducted along a highway in Kogi State, has recounted how a cutlass-wielding kidnapper injured his hand while attempting to escape, leaving him bleeding throughout the night.
Daniel said he sustained the injury after running into a nearby bush to evade one of the abductors who was pursuing him. He explained that he fell while trying to escape, leaving him vulnerable to the attacker who allegedly attempted to cut his head.
Speaking during an interview from 1:38 on TVC News on Monday, August 10, 2026, Daniel described how he used his hand to shield himself from the attack, resulting in the cutlass striking him.
“I ran into a nearby bush and I fell down. So one of them that was chasing me brought knife to cut my head and I put one of my hand and that’s when the cutlass landed here to cut my vein. So I was bleeding throughout the night”
According to Daniel, the injury occurred during his attempt to flee from the kidnappers after he ran away from the area where the victims were being held.
The victim said the cutlass struck his hand when he raised it to protect his head from the attacker’s blow. He added that the wound was serious enough to cause continuous bleeding throughout the night.
