The Chairman of the Nigerian Labour Congress in Abia State, Okoro Ogbonnaya has alleged that there is an expectation for Governor Otti to address the outstanding salary arrears left by the previous administration of former Governor Ikpeazu.

He noted that this responsibility is particularly pressing because the state’s monthly allocation from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) has seen a significant increase, providing the financial capacity to clear these backlogs. He asserted that over 60 percent of the votes for Governor Alex Otti in the recent election were cast by Abia state workers and so they deserve to be treated better by the state government.

He said in an interview with Punch, ”I can tell you boldly that more than 60 percent of the votes cast for Governor Alex Otti at the last election cane from the Abia state workers. He came and he has been paying the workers’ salaries as and when due between the 28th she 29th day of every month. However, since governance is a continuum and you inherit both assets and liabilities. We expect Alex Otti to pay the arrears being owned by his predecessor Ikpeazu. Especially because the monthly allocation to the state from FAAC has increased substantially.”….Sée Móre
