Segun Showunmi has weighed in on the political crisis rocking Rivers State, blaming both Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, while insisting that Wike made a critical mistake that triggered the conflict.

Speaking from 21:56 on Channels Television, Showunmi said Governor Fubara often portrays himself as a victim, an image he does not accept. According to him, the governor entered a power struggle he was not fully prepared for, despite being fully aware of the political strength and influence of his former boss.

Showunmi revealed that he had reservations about Fubara from the outset, noting that during his campaign, the governor appeared distant and visibly angry even while supporters celebrated his victory.

However, Showunmi argued that the crisis ultimately turned against Wike because he underestimated someone he personally helped bring to power. He explained that Fubara was not a political outsider to Wike, having previously served as his Accountant-General, a position that allowed him to understand Wike’s political style, strengths, and weaknesses.

He also pointed out that many individuals who once dismissed Fubara as politically irrelevant are now firmly aligned with him simply because he now holds power. According to Showunmi, Wike failed to recognize that once authority changes hands, loyalty and control are no longer guaranteed.

Showunmi concluded that entering a political battle without certainty of victory is dangerous, adding that Wike’s greatest error may have been believing that someone he once controlled would remain permanently under his influence.

In his words, “It serves Wike right. If he has made any mistakes in his life, this is one fatal mistake he made.” See_More…
