Former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has reacted to recent comments by Peter Obi regarding the economic potential of northern Nigeria, stating that all regions of the country possess significant value and should be regarded as national assets.

Sowore made the remarks while speaking to the press in a video from 4:29 aired by TV Platinum on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, addressing Obi’s assertion that the northern region represents Nigeria’s greatest asset.

Responding to the claim, Sowore said, “Which part of Nigeria is not Nigeria’s asset? Every part of Nigeria is Nigeria’s asset.” He highlighted the distribution of natural resources across the country, adding, “If you go to the south, don’t we have oil there? If you go to the north central, they have lithium. Lithium is one of the greatest assets a country can have. That’s north central, Nasarawa.”

He further stated that while the northern region has potential, development should not be limited to one area. “If you go to the north, yes, we can turn the north to the assets. But every Nigeria can be turned into the greatest asset. Every inch of Nigeria has,” he said.

Sowore also questioned Obi’s position, alleging political motivations behind the remarks. “But Obi wants to, belatedly, start pleasing the north. Is it not the same Obi that put northerners inside bus and repatriated them to the north? That time he forgot that the north is the asset of Nigeria. Don’t let the hypocrite be deceiving you,” he said.

He continued with further claims regarding past actions, stating, “Did he not pack northerners and put them inside a vehicle, northern beggars, and ask them to be repatriated within Nigeria? Did Fashola not also do it? But if they want to run for office, they are just looking for northern votes.”

Sowore also raised questions about developmental contributions, saying, “How many schools did he build in the north when he was governor? I’m not saying it’s his duty.”

He concluded by partially aligning with Obi’s broader point, adding, “The only thing that he did for the north when he was governor of Anambra for eight years was to repatriate northern beggars back to the north. But to answer his question, I agree with him. The north is a great asset.” Read_More…
