Mohammed Ngoshe, a retired Assistant Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), has said security forces only moved decisively against the terrorists behind the Oriire school abduction after ensuring that the kidnapped pupils and their teacher had been safely recovered.
Speaking during an interview from 8:24 on Channels Television on Wednesday, 15 July, 2026, Ngoshe explained that the operation was carefully executed to prioritise the safety of the victims before launching an offensive against the abductors. He said security agencies exercised restraint until the children were no longer in the custody of the terrorists.
“Getting to the level where they are to be annihilated completely, they gave out the children thinking that will resolve the matter. After the children were successfully recovered, the forces engaged them,” Ngoshe said.
According to the retired DSS chief, the terrorists released the children believing the crisis had been resolved and that they had escaped the pressure mounted by security agencies.
