A former lawmaker representing Kaduna Central Senatorial District in the Upper Chamber of the National Assembly and a staunch member of the main opposition party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Shehu Sani has taken to X (formerly known as Twitter) to react to the stampede that reportedly claimed the lives of at least 19 people in Okija, Anambra State today.

According to a post on the official X handle of Senator Shehu Sani, the former federal lawmaker said that the incident was an avoidable national tragedy. He expressed displeasure that people who would have ended the year on a good note lost their lives during the incident. Senator Shehu Sani did not mention how the incident could have been avoided, but prayed that the souls of the deceased find peace.

Senator Shehu Sani had written, “The Anambra Okija stampede is an avoidable national tragedy. The sight of the corpses of people who would have ended the year on a good note is sad and unfortunate. May their souls rest in peace.”
