Former Governor of Adamawa State, Bala James Ngilari, who has had a unique journey in politics, a lawyer and former member of the House of Representatives, during an interview with Daily Trust shared insights into why governors in Nigeria wield significant power and how safeguards can be put in place to ensure they do not exceed their limits.
He also revealed that he has never met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, despite being a top politician in the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He alleged when he was governor, he had a policy of allowing his friends to enter into his bedroom, because they are the ones that could tell him what was happening in his state, unlike current governors who only rely on their commissioners.
He said, “But you see, in the system that we have, they want people who will blow their trumpets. these are the people that parade the corridors of power, and if you dare offer anything contrary to what they want to hear, you are branded an enemy.”
Further talking, he said, “It may surprise you to hear for instance, that since I got into APC, up to this date, I have not sat one-on-one with President Tinubu. I have not met him.
If he sees me today, he would not know me. But because I believe in his presidency with Kashim Shettima. I believe we will be getting somewhere. It does not bother me whether I know him personally or not.”
