Former Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare CON, has declared that Babachir Lawal’s claim that Peter Obi “won” the 2023 presidential election is “not only egregious but a barefaced lie.”
Dare, reacting to Lawal’s recent appearance on Channels Television, accused the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation of incoherence, desperation, and political inconsistency. He described the interview as a poorly scripted attempt to bait President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whom Lawal once staunchly supported, even calling for the “wrath of God” to fall upon anyone who opposed his presidency.
In his words: “Your claim that Peter Obi ‘won’ the 2023 elections is not only egregious but a barefaced lie. The people have spoken, the law has sanctioned it, and the courts have ruled. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu won the 2023 count fair and square and remains Nigeria’s duly elected President until 2027.”
He condemned Lawal for casually flinging insults at the same man he once defended, calling him names and disrespecting his office. According to Dare, this behavior “says everything about his character — a fair-weather friend, an opportunist, and a clout chaser.”
Dare further criticized Lawal’s choice of words, including referring to Tinubu as a “so-called president,” saying it was a disgraceful denigration of the office he once served under. He also accused him of playing ethnic politics and carrying an inflated sense of self-importance that had earlier led to his removal from office under President Muhammadu Buhari’s government.
