A fresh political controversy has emerged following former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi’s declaration that he would serve only one term if elected President in 2027.
Reacting to Amaechi’s statement, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, took to X (formerly Twitter) on July 3, 2025 to react to the former governor’s presidential ambition.
Quoting a headline of Amaechi’s pledge, Olayinka replied: “If I get the ticket, I will only do one month ”
The remark is said to have quickly gained traction online, drawing a mix of criticism. Amaechi, who recently confirmed his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC), had according to a report by Channels Television on Thursday, promised to respect Nigeria’s unwritten North-South power rotation agreement, saying: “If I get the ticket, I will only do one term. Nigerians can trust that… Nigerians know that I speak my mind.”
