In a recent interview with Arise Television 18:49, public policy analyst Abba Kaka raised concerns over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, questioning its necessity amid ongoing political tensions between former governor Nyesom Wike and incumbent governor Siminalayi Fubara. He also indicated that Wike is looking for peace now from his recent discussion.

Kaka argued that there has been no threat to national security in the state to justify such a drastic move, especially when compared to long-standing insecurity in regions like Plateau, Katsina, and Borno.

The words of Kaka at some point during the interview read, “the issue is that everybody is asking what is the reason behind the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers apart from the issues between Wike and Fubara. We have not seen a threat to national security that will warrant a declaration of a state of emergency.”

“Look at what has been happening in Plateau, Katsina, and Borno for twelve years, but the governor of Borno has been on top of things, and he has been prompt in calling on security agencies. When the Boko Haram insurgency came up a couple of weeks ago, he called it as it is.” He said

He further stated that “Fubara told people to calm down because he saw the storm coming. Maybe President Tinubu has now realised from the commotion going on that maybe it was even a mistake to have declared the state of emergency and that maybe he was misled by people like Wike and others. Wike is going to be looking for peace now because Fubara is also doing his own bidding. The point of Wike saying Rivers elders are not seeking for peace is not true.”
