Popular Nigerian journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, has revealed new details about his past relationship with former Rivers State governor and current Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. Speaking in an interview with Channels Television, Momodu said he once supported Wike behind the scenes, helping him improve his image and how he spoke to people.
According to him, Wike benefited greatly from his experience and the influence of his media company, Ovation Media Group. “We tushed him up,” Momodu said, meaning they polished his public appearance and personality.
He explained that whenever he visited Port Harcourt, Wike would invite him to his house every morning. There, they would help him dress properly and even guide him on how to speak better in public through speech therapy.
However, Momodu said Wike had one major weakness — alcohol. “He had one major problem, that major problem was too much alcohol, which he takes as early as possible in the morning,” Momodu revealed. “I’ve never tasted gin and tonic in my life, but he introduced me to it. I’m surprised he never talked about all those drinks.”
Momodu used a common saying to describe Wike’s character: “You can take a man out of the bush, but you can’t take the bush out of the man,” suggesting that despite all the efforts to improve Wike, his habits didn’t change.
