New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) chieftain, Buba Galadima has downplayed the recent threat by U.S. President Donald Trump to launch military action against Nigeria if the government fails to protect Christians from terrorist attacks.

Speaking during an interview on AIT Live News from 3:48, Galadima said Nigerians should not be intimidated by Trump’s remarks, arguing that the U.S. president’s public support for any Nigerian administration often signals that America has already extracted significant benefits from the country.

Reacting to Trump’s declaration of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” and his warning of possible strikes, Galadima dismissed the threat as political grandstanding rather than a genuine intention to act. He said Nigeria must not be swayed by external pressure or dramatic statements from foreign leaders, insisting that national security decisions should be guided by internal priorities and not foreign expectations. According to him, “Trump will not strike. Whenever you see Trump clapping for the government, he has milked us dry.”

Galadima argued that while Nigeria must take seriously the task of protecting all citizens, Christians and Muslims alike the country should not rely on threats from abroad to drive domestic security reforms. He emphasised that the responsibility to confront terrorism rests solely with Nigerian authorities, who must strengthen intelligence gathering, invest in modern technology, and improve coordination among security agencies.

He further warned that foreign nations often use human rights or religious freedom concerns as leverage to pursue their own strategic interests. According to him, Nigeria should respond through diplomacy rather than fear, ensuring that the nation’s sovereignty is not undermined. View, More,
