Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, a prominent Nigerian politician and former vice-presidential candidate, has offered fresh insight into the reasons behind the controversial actions and strong rhetoric of Nyesom Wike, the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and former Governor of Rivers State.
Speaking during an interview with Arise Television , Baba-Ahmed explained that Wike’s recent stance against the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) stems from deep-seated personal betrayal he suffered during the party’s 2022 presidential primaries.
According to Baba-Ahmed, Wike had placed his trust in close allies during his presidential bid but was left humiliated when it mattered most.
“A very dear friend of his, at the most critical moment, backstabbed him,” Baba-Ahmed said. He added that the betrayal happened openly before the entire nation at Eagle Square, where the PDP held its presidential primary election.
Many political watchers recall how Wike, once one of the PDP’s strongest pillars, became increasingly critical of the party’s leadership after losing the presidential ticket.
Despite calls for reconciliation, Wike has continued to speak out against perceived injustice within the party and has built new alliances that many believe could reshape future elections.
Baba-Ahmed noted that while many Nigerians only see Wike’s loud confrontations and strong statements, few understand the personal disappointment that drives his actions.
He emphasized that betrayal in politics leaves wounds that can influence decisions for years.
Wike’s feud with the PDP leadership has reshaped the political landscape, with supporters and critics divided on whether his defiance will weaken the party or inspire necessary reforms.
Baba-Ahmed’s revelation offers a glimpse into the emotional motivations that continue to fuel one of Nigeria’s most outspoken political figures.
