Senator Florence Ita-Giwa has criticized the involvement of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s husband in her legislative affairs, questioning why an elected Senator would suggest that her spouse had to intervene for her order paper. She argued that such claims undermine the hard work it takes for a woman to win an election and secure a Senate seat.
She stated that an elected Senator has full rights to their seat, voice, and motions. She maintained that Natasha should exercise her legislative authority independently, without allowing anyone to treat her differently.
She said in an interview with Arise TV from 17:32, “Why would you go to the point of saying your husband went to beg for your order paper to be in the Senate? For goodness’ sake, do you know what it takes for a woman to win an election and get to the Senate? That is the point I am making! You fought for that position, you went through court battles, you won—so why should your husband be involved in your legislative work? The point I am making is, you are elected. You have a right to your seat, to your voice, to your motions. You exercise your rights without allowing anyone to treat you differently.”
